Where it fits
The Shure Beta 52A is a supercardioid dynamic kick drum microphone for band stages at concerts, festivals and corporate shows. It captures the attack and low end of the kick and also works on bass cabinets.
Setup
It mounts on a short boom stand with its built-in locking stand adapter, at the kick drum's front port or just inside. The XLR line runs to the stage box, and our engineer sets gain and EQ during line check.

Questions
Does the Beta 52A need phantom power?+
No, it is a dynamic microphone and works without phantom power.
Should we pair it with a Beta 91A?+
Often, yes: the Beta 91A inside the drum gives the click, and the Beta 52A at the port adds body.
Will it pick up the rest of the drum kit?+
Its supercardioid pattern rejects much of the off-axis sound, which keeps cymbals and snare low in the kick channel.
